Job Description
General Summary
 
Operations Management Trainees will be responsible for maximizing operating and revenue efficiencies by identifying weight, time and service improvement opportunities, evaluating the effectiveness of route sequence, documenting route and customer specific issues and ensuring follow-through with District team. Ideal candidates skills should be recruited as development for Route Manager / District Manager career path.
 
Essential Duties
·         In-cab ride-along with Waste Management drivers on existing routes to determine the effectiveness of route sequencing, document specific route and customer data.
·         While on route, identify weight, time, accessibility, risk and other operating and revenue improvement opportunities.
·         Share ideas to increase route productivity while promoting safe and profitable service.
·         Work with the Market Area General Manager, BIP Analysts, District Managers & fellow Operations Management Trainees to effectively audit routes to uncover improvement opportunities.
·         Effectively interact and work with Operations Improvement Manager (OIM), Sales and Operations Managers to review and promote corrective actions.
·         Comply and ensure adherence to Waste Management’s safe operating standards and regulations.
·         Attend and contribute to periodic driver/safety meetings to maintain a favorable working relationship among all employees and promote maximum morale, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Promote safe, friendly work environment with employees, customers and vendors – acting in a constructive and service-oriented manner.
·         Work with the Market Area General Manager, BIP Analysts, District Managers & fellow Operations Management Trainees to effectively audit routes to uncover improvement opportunities.
·         Support analysis and review of the day-to-day operations of the District.
  • Provide direct support and leadership in the event of a natural disaster, labor issue or as requested.
Perform other duties as assigned.  Travel Required.
Minimum Experience/Education Requirements
·         Undergraduate Degree
·         Must possess good working knowledge of MS Office computer programs to include Excel.
·         Must have the ability to assimilate complete information, data, etc, from disparate sources and consider, adjust or modify to meet the constraints of the particular need.
·         Must have demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills.
·         Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to prioritize departmental functions in order to meet due dates and deadlines.
·         Must be willing to work various work hours beginning as early as 2:00am.
·         Must be able to ride in vehicle for up to 12 hours and sit at a desk for up to 4 or more hours per day with or without reasonable accommodations.
·         Experience in problem solving and conflict resolution.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
 Preferred Qualifications
·         Advanced education
·         Prior experience in Transportation, Dispatch or Logistics preferred.
·         Must have quick problem solving ability.
